
Director Shane Meadows and actor Robert Carlyle scooped prizes at an awards ceremony marking the end of the Edinburgh International Film Festival (EIFF).
Meadows’ latest work, Somers Town, netted the Michael Powell Award for best new British feature film, while Trainspotting star Robert won best actor for his performance in Summer.
The awards were presented by festival patron Sir Sean Connery at the city’s Filmhouse.
Meadows said he felt “amazing” after his bittersweet drama picked up the top prize.
He said: “I first came to Edinburgh 12 years ago and I had never been to a film festival before. I came up with my mum I think in 96 and we sat in the Filmhouse pretty much all week and I had the best time of my life. It was the doorway to a brand new life for me.
